About The Course

Property insurance protects owners against financial loss in the event of damage to their property resulting from unfortunate events that are man-made (i.e. burglary, terrorism or vandalism) or by nature (i.e. hurricanes, flooding or earthquakes). Casualty insurance is a bit more vague, but generally protects the owner from legal liability due to damage caused by someone else or negligence or omission by policyholder.

Common types of Property and Casualty insurance include: auto insurance, homeowners insurance, renter's Insurance, and flood insurance.

Requirements

The Property and Casualty (P&C) license allows you to sell homeowners, auto, liability and commercial insurance products.

Anyone wishing to obtain a Property and Casualty Insurance License must be at least 18 years of age, never been convicted of a felony or any crime involving fraudulent or dishonest practices, and be current in any child support payments. You must also submit to a background check.

If you meet the above criteria, you must complete a 90-hour minimum pre-licensing classroom requirement from a state-accredited educational facility. You must then submit an application to the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) with all required fees. Lastly, you must successfully pass the exam prescribed by the Superintendent of Insurance and also possess an approved appointment from a sponsoring insurance company before you are granted your Property and Casualty license.
